Hi doll!

Hi doll - Planet Fur

Door mijn zwangerschap en -verlof ben ik tijden niet in Rotterdam geweest, maar afgelopen week reisde ik er voor het eerst weer naartoe om Diana te spreken. Nu alle fysieke ongemakken achter me liggen en ik weer kan doen wat ik zo graag doe (en daar ook het bijbehorende humeur bij heb), was het best een beetje emotioneel om die route weer af te leggen. Vrolijk emotioneel, niet huiliehuilie emotioneel. (Na het krijgen van mijn kind ben ik keihard in een vrolijk weekdier verandert, zoveel is wel duidelijk.)

Diana gaf me, om deze letterlijke en figuurlijke terugkeer te vieren, het mooiste (symbolische) cadeau: een kokeshi popje. Een kokeshi popje met een hipster knotje, om precies te zijn. Ze symboliseert de start van de nieuwe plannen die ik aan het maken ben. Plannen waarmee ik hopelijk mooie dingen maken kan, een leuke moeder kan zijn en waarmee ik ook nog genoeg slaap kan krijgen. We gaan het zien!

Last week I visited Diana in Rotterdam again, after my super-long pregnancy/maternity break. Now that I have left all those pregnancy related inconveniences behind me and can do what I love so much, it was a bit emotional to travel those miles again. Emotional of the happy kind, that is. Not the hysterical sobbing kind.

To celebrate me being back in business, Diana had the most beautiful gift for me: a little kokeshi doll. A kokeshi doll with a hipster bun, to be exact. She symbolizes the start of making new, fun business plans again. Plans that will hopefully make me able to create beautiful stuff, be a good mum and get enough sleep. We’ll see. To be continued!

Groeten uit Groede

We gingen uitwaaien in Zeeland, Wendel, Anki, Cristian en ik. Anki schreef er zo’n prachtige post over, dat ik niet eens ga proberen om die te toppen. We gingen naar Brugge, waar ik bij Veritas mijn voorraad handschoenen en sjaals aanvulde (waarom raak ik áltijd mijn handschoenen kwijt?). Het kokeshi popje kreeg ik van Iris, die ons helaas niet kon vergezellen dit weekend (we misten je Vankie!).

In plaats van mijn camera nam ik mijn Fuji Instax mee. Ik maak er (meestal!) één foto mee die meteen favoriet is. In dit geval is het een foto van Anki en Wendel op het strand met (natuurlijk!) een hondje dat zich enorm aan het vermaken was in de branding. Het was, kortom, heerlijk!

Last weekend, I went to Zeeland with Wendel, Anki and Cristian. Anki wrote a beautiful post about it and I’m not even going to try to top that one. It was just wonderful. We went shopping in Brugge, where I added a new scarf and gloves to my ever shrinking collection of knitwear (why do I always loose my gloves?). The cute kokeshi doll was a gift from Iris, who sadly couldn’t join us for the weekend (we missed you Vankie!).

Instead of my camera I took my Fuji Instax along for the trip. I (usually) make one picture that immediately becomes my favourite and in this case it’s this image of Anki and Wendel on the beach with (of course!) a little doggy that had a blast running through the waves that crashed on the beach. Bliss!

Dollhouse

Kokeshi dollhouse

Dit oude medicijnkastje hing al tijden in de woonkamer, maar moest aan de binnenkant nog aangekleed worden en dat bracht weer zoveel dilemma’s met zich mee (verven? beplakken? En met welk(e) kleur/dessin dan?) dat het, zo zonder echte bestemming, een soort shit bowl aan de muur begon te worden. (Shit bowl = een bak waar zo’n beetje alle losse troepjes uit een huis zich verzamelen en waar je meestal die ene knoop/dat sleuteltje van het halkastje/vreemd muntgeld in terug vindt. Meestal wel pas als je die items nét vervangen hebt, dat dan weer wel.) Het project moest daarnaast een snel én mooi resultaat geven (ik ben een luie crafter) en dat bracht me op het idee dit project nog eens ongegeneerd te herhalen bij dit kastje. Het is nu de plek waar ik mijn kokeshi bewaar en ik kan het mishebben, maar lijkt wel alsof ze nu, in hun moderne poppenhuis, nóg tevredener kijken…

This old medicine cabinet has been in our livingroom for quite some time but it still needed some decoration on the inside. This unfortunately raised so many questions (should I paint or paper it? And in what colour/design then?) that, without a proper destination, it slowly turned into a shit bowl on the wall. (A shit bowl is usually a bowl in the house where its inhabitants keep all kinds of bits and bobs in. It’s the bowl where you will surely retrace that one button/foreign money/the key of that tiny hallway drawer, probably when you just replaced them that is.) On top of that, Project Upholstery had to be easy and with a beautiful result, I am of course still a lazy crafter. In the end I decided to just rewind this project and I can confirm that it also worked on this cabinet. It is now the place where I keep my beloved kokeshi and I can be mistaken, but it seems like they look even more content since they moved into their contemporary dollhouse…
