Parental advisory
It seems a bit cruel to sell the Easter bunny’s head in my shop, but this little girl can assure you that she’s literally made to do the job and that we all still can search for eggs during Easter (or is that just a Dutch tradition?). Anyway, she will be available in the shop soon, together with her sister.
Het lijkt me ineens nogal cru om het hoofd van de Paashaas te verkopen in mijn winkel, maar deze kleine meid wil jullie verzekeren dat ze letterlijk voor de klus gemaakt is en dat we nog steeds eieren kunnen zoeken met Pasen. Ze zal binnenkort te koop zijn in de winkel, samen met haar zus!
I went for Easter Island, I came back with China
A title like that needs some explanation, I guess. Last weekend we went to Rotterdam for a visit to the WorldMuseum. A temporary collection about Oceania was featured there, which I really wanted to see mainly because I have a major fascination for Easter Island (and especially it’s magnificant statues). When we visited Washington two years ago, I saw a real statue from Easter Island in the Smithsonian Natural History Museum and I was stunned and determined to read and learn more about the culture that lived there centuries ago. Unfortunately, the Rotterdam collection was mainly focused on the culture on Papua New-Guinea (I guess that has something to do with the fact it was one of our colonies once?) which I found a bit dissapointing to be honest. Luckily, the museum also has a permanent collection about Tibet, China and Japan and those collections saved the day. The bold, bright colors and floral designs used on the fabrics, altars and statues were very inspiring and I left with a head full of ideas for pictures to make at home. So now I am determined to read and learn about Easter Island AND China and Tibet. Library pass, anyone?Wij gingen dit weekend naar Rotterdam voor een tentoonstelling in het Wereldmuseum over Oceanië. Ik heb een grote fascinatie voor Paaseiland en toen wij twee jaar geleden een echt beeld van Paaseiland in het Smithsonian Natural History Museum zagen, was ik vastbesloten me nog meer in die cultuur te gaan verdiepen. Helaas ging deze collectie vooral in op de culturen op Papua Nieuw Guinea (vast iets te doen met het feit dat het een kolonie van Nederland was?) en ik was redelijk teleurgesteld toen ik vaststelde dat Paaseiland gewoon helemaal nergens aan bod kwam. Gelukkig heeft het museum ook een vaste collectie over o.a. Tibet, China en Japan. De prachtige heldere kleuren op de stoffen, altaren en beelden zijn ontzettend inspirerend en ik ging naar huis met een hoofd vol ideeën voor nieuwe foto’s én met het voornemen me meer te gaan verdiepen in Paaseiland, Tibet én China. Iemand nog een bibliotheekpas te leen?
