Vintage needlework art

I’m making a wall-piece with vintage needlework.
It always made me a bit sad that all those hours and hours of sewing by a grandmother or mother (or, in a perfect world, grandfather) end up in a thriftshop.

So I have to take them with me everytime I pass by.

They’re all gonna be joined together now in one big piece. And get the second life they (and all (grand)mothers and (grand)fathers) deserve after a hard day’s life.

As you know, I like imperfect

Reading back my posts about our reconstructing project, it seems I really dislike everything about it, which is absolutely not true. I must be honest, I don’t like the chaos it causes in every aspect (chaos inside the house, our life and in my head) but I really can’t wait to go live there, and I feel so very blessed that we are able to actually make this house our home. Sometimes I get the feeling I have to give it all back when it’s all finished, it all still seems a bit unreal to me.

Another very, very (very!) nice aspect of a new home of course is that I have another new (almost blank) space to decorate. And so last week my quest for new, affordable dining table chairs began. No, I’m not sponsored by Ikea to write this post, but I did find my affordable non-mainstream chairs there. They are called PS Spika and they are adorably imperfect…just my cup of tea. Isn’t he the cutest? (Can a chair be cute? In my opinion, he can..I’d almost give him a name…something more cute than Spika of course).

I think I’m gonna paint them in a nice green colour. Please ask about my new cute chairs after this big painting project and see if I still like them…*LOL*

Have a lovely Sunday!

Harvest

Oh my, is it October already? I can’t believe we are moving towards Autumn again (and that I’m soon turning 29…Even more shocking!). It feels like it was last month that we had to plough through 11 inches of snow here in The Netherlands.
On the other hand, I love that it’s getting darker and colder (I can’t stand Summer heat), and that I’m allowed to make stamppot (stew) again. Yes, I’m one of those people who likes stew in Summer…unfortunately the thought of it only makes my Love nauseous, so we (he :-)) decided to skip the stew in Summer.

I also like to sing Christmas songs in the middle of June and annoy people with that.

Funny… I wanted to write a post about that good ol’ Autumn feeling and I end up writing a handbook on how to lose friends and alienate people. But now we are talking of obnoxious habits: what are yours? Don’t worry, I can keep a secret :-)

About the shop

A short message before I rush off to our reconstruction project. Since the Woonbeurs I felt like making some new bunnies from old blankets, which resulted in the two little fellows at the left. The shop is terribly empty at the moment, and I promise it will be updated on short time notice, so please check back often. Things have been so hectic the last couple of weeks (and will be still the upcoming weeks). I’m dying to get back to my old life and get things back to normal…and sew a big new stock to fill my shop with.

Have a lovely Sunday, see you soon!

The cushioncover and pouch are made by Club Geluk, on top of the pile some lace of my mother’s weddinggown..so cool!

My Woonbeurs Adventure

Oeoeoeoe! I had such a wonderful day at the Woonbeurs, yesterday! This years 101 Woonideeën home was so beautiful decorated, and so very different from last year’s black and white stand. It’s atmosphere was very feminine and soft and I loved the herbarium with orchids in the kitchen (unfortunately I screwed up the pictures of it, so you’ll have to imagine how it looked ;-) I got so occupied with talking to people (and laughing with my neighbour) that I did take a short walk along the other Woonbeurs-stands but forgot to photographe them, so if you want to see more pictures take a look at MikoDesign’s blog here.

Marieke of Club Geluk was my neighbour for the day. She is such a funny person, I laughed my buns off (I’m notorious for my loud laugh, so everybody knew I was in the house, that’s a thing for sure). Marieke designs her own fabrics, you should really take a look at her store if you haven’t already done that. We made a swap at the end of the day, I am now the proud owner of a couple of her lovely items (a girl can always use more lovely items for her new home, can’t she?)

Well, I don’t want to end up only writing about how lovely and happy and yay-y everything was, but it was. The people that stopped by at our stand had such nice comments and everybody at the 101-stand was so kind, it was one big happiness wave (well, let’s not exaggerate…but it was fun). I might experience these kind of things heavier because of all our reconstructing work of the last couple of weeks, but I sure wouldn’t have missed it for the world.
