A chair for the nursery

Een stoel voor de babykamer, ook dat kan een zoektocht van maanden opleveren. Wat ik mezelf geheel vrijwillig aandoe en welke zoektocht echt geen straf is. Ik ging van de Eames rocker (wel erg duur) naar Hay (minder duur) via vage kuipstoelen en ouderwetse rookstoelen (ieuw…ik weet niet, daar ben ik een beetje vies van) op Marktplaats naar van die houten schoolstoelen (zie je jezelf al zitten, midden in de nacht met een baby op zo’n rechtop stoel?). Het was het allemaal niet. Tot ik recent bij iemand langsging bij wie aan het eind van de straat kringloop zit. (Dat zou voor mij dé reden zijn om een huis te kopen.) Die kringloop is eigenlijk te duur, het personeel oneindig onvriendelijk en ze verkopen amper accessoires (tenzij je een gedeukte, half verbrande pan zoekt, dan moet je er zéker heen) maar ze hebben zo ontzettend veel meubels in die hal staan dat er wel iets tussen móest staan dat allicht goedkoper was dan een Eames rocker chair. Ik vond er deze stoel met heule smerige matraskussens erin (die mochten ze houden – die kunnen ze dan weer lekker verpatsen voor veel te veel geld) voor 15 euro. Voor 15 euro versnipper ik ineens die hele wensenlijst waar De Stoel inmiddels aan moest voldoen. Overigens zit ie prima, ook zonder kussens, en ik kocht ‘m niet alleen voor de prijs: de vorm vind ik prachtig. Project nummer twee is nu in aantocht: matraskussens maken. Of leuke vinden in de goede maat en kleur. Zo hou ik mezelf lekker bezig. Je kan trouwens meekijken met mijn weg door babykamermeubilairland en aanverwante babyzaken op dit Pinterestbord (gesteld dat je daar trek in hebt natuurlijk..).

A chair for the nursery, that too can become quite the quest when you’re me. Which isn’t a punishment at all. I went from the Eames rocker (too expensive) to Hay (less expensive) via scruffy club chairs (ew…) on eBay to those old-school school chairs (I could already imagine us sitting in the middle of the night with a baby on our lap on a hard chair like that…not). The Chair just wasn’t there for me. When I recently visited someone who lives in a street with a thriftshop around the corner I decided to take a peek there. The personnel there is extremely unfriendly, their prices too high and they hardly sell accessoiries (unless you’re looking for burned, dented pans..then you should definitely pay a visit) but they do have the mother of all second hand furniture collections. I reckoned if I couldn’t find my chair there, I wasn’t going to find it anywhere. And I found one, for only 15 euros. There were two extremely filthy matrass cushions in it (I kindly allowed the shop to keep those – they are probably trying to sell them for the exact same price) but it’s comfortable even without cushions and I love its shape. Which brings me to my next project: making matrass cushions for this baby (pun not intended). Or finding the right ones in the right colour on the internet. That’s how I keep myself busy people.
