Alienating Budapest
Next to well kept buildings we walked pass this old, unknown (once beautiful) giant building that was totally falling in decay. My love made this wonderful alienating picture of one of it’s entrances. Especially the statue made me wonder who this man once was and why no one bothered that it was falling apart (maybe it was a horrible man and the people of Hungary now give him the treatment he deserves…who knows?). That is what I love about big cities. Beautiful, ugly and alienating scenes lay next to one another. And every corner you turn you get surprised by it.
wish I knew…do you remember where you found the building? :) hello from sunny Budapest!
Hi there!
You live in a beautiful city! It was a large building at the bottom of the hill of Buda Castle. Any idea?
:) was it along the Danube? if yes, it may the Budai Ifjusagi Park, a beautiful but now really run-down building…
Yes it was! This is fun! But what kind of building was it before it fell-down? And will it ever be restored?
:) it is one of my favourite buildings, but there has been a lot of (political) controversy around the reconstruction of the site, which is actually called the Várbazár (Castle bazaar). it is a World Heritage site, and was built around 1880, there used to be shops, art galleries, artist studios and concerts held there, before it sort of fell apart… hopefully it will come to life again soon!
